A free AI subtitle generator with no watermark does exist, but almost never without another limit attached. As of 17 October 2026, Adobe Express captions videos up to 5 minutes long for free with no watermark and no monthly cap, Zeemo exports a one-minute clip free with no watermark, and nearly every other tool trades the clean export for a short free allowance, a subtitle file behind a paywall, or a watermark on the video. This guide lists what ten free plans actually give you, where the vendor does not say, and which free option fits which job.
If your job is Hinglish Reels, start with the Hinglish caption generator. This post covers the wider question.
Free plans compared at a glance
Every row comes from the vendor's own pricing, help or tool page on the date given in its section. "Not stated" means the page does not say, not that the answer is no.
| Tool | Free allowance | Watermark on free export | Resolution on free | SRT on free | Languages note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zeemo | 10 credits, 1 min max per caption video, 3-day storage | No | 720p | Listed as a feature, plan not stated | 95 claimed; App Store list names about 15 incl. Hindi |
| Adobe Express | No monthly limit; 5 min and 1 GB per video | No | Not stated | Not described | 17 incl. Hindi; no Hinglish, Tamil or Telugu |
| Media.io | 5 min trial; 10 min export cap; 512 MB upload | Pricing page says yes, tool page says no | 720p | Yes | 85+; Hindi not named |
| Kapwing | 10 min of auto-subtitling; exports up to 4 min | Yes | 720p | Paid plans only | Hinglish listed as a target language |
| VEED | Free, no card; limits not stated on language pages | Not mentioned | Not stated | Paid plan only | Hindi, Tamil and Telugu pages; Hinglish not mentioned |

| Maestra | 1 min trial or preview; sign up to export | Not mentioned | Not stated | After sign-up, with TXT and VTT | 125+ languages |
| TurboScribe | 3 transcripts a day, up to 30 min each | Not applicable; files only | Not applicable | Yes, plus VTT, TXT, DOCX, PDF | 98+ languages, Hindi named, Hinglish not named |
| Captions app | Free tier, one caption template, no AI credits | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | 100+ languages |
| CapsAI | 3 free minutes to start | Watermark-free export comes with every paid pack | Paid packs: 1080p to 4K | No; burned-in MP4 only | 11 spoken languages incl. Hinglish in Roman script |
Zeemo
Zeemo's pricing page (17 October 2026) is one of the few that puts "No watermark" on the free plan in plain words. The free plan costs US$0 and comes with 10 credits, a one-minute maximum caption video length, 720P export and 3-day storage. The clean export is real, but only for a clip of a minute or less, downloaded within three days.
Zeemo claims captions in 95 languages; its App Store listing names around 15, Hindi among them. SRT and ASS export appear in its feature list without a stated plan, so do not assume the free tier includes a subtitle file. See Zeemo vs CapsAI.
Adobe Express
Adobe Express is the strongest free pick on this list for short English or Hindi videos. Adobe's own comparison table (February 2026) describes "Free video auto-caption generation with no monthly limit" and says the tool "Never adds watermarks to your videos". The India pricing page (17 October 2026) lists the plan at ₹0.
The limits sit on each video rather than on a monthly quota. The Caption video requirements page (last updated 20 November 2025) caps a video at 5 minutes and 1 GB and lists 17 spoken languages, Hindi included, but not Hinglish, Tamil or Telugu. The help pages describe downloading the captioned video, not an SRT file, so treat SRT as not offered until Adobe says otherwise. The Adobe Express comparison covers the editing side.
Media.io
Media.io is the tool where the two pages we checked disagree. On 17 October 2026 its pricing page listed a Free Trial with 5 minutes of Auto Subtitle, 720p output and "Export with watermark", while the Auto Subtitle tool page claimed no watermark for free or paid users. When a pricing page and a marketing page conflict, trust the pricing page until a test export proves otherwise.
The free trial also has a 10-minute export cap and a 512 MB upload limit, and SRT download is offered. Media.io claims 85+ languages but does not name Hindi on the pages we read. More in Media.io vs CapsAI.
Kapwing
Kapwing is upfront about its trade. The free plan (pricing and subtitles pages, 15 October 2026) allows up to 10 minutes of auto-subtitling, but exports are limited to 4 minutes at 720p and carry a watermark. SRT and VTT download are paid-plan features. Kapwing does list Hinglish as a target language, which is rare among the larger editors. Read the Kapwing comparison if you also want its editor.
VEED
VEED's Hindi, Tamil and Telugu auto subtitle pages (17 October 2026) say "Adding subtitles is free" and "No credit card required". They do not mention a watermark either way, a free minutes cap or an export resolution, so you learn those limits inside the editor. SRT download needs a paid plan. Hinglish is not mentioned. See VEED vs CapsAI.
HappyScribe
HappyScribe is a subtitle-file tool rather than a burn-in editor. Its Hindi subtitles page (17 October 2026) says "The first 10 minutes are free and there's no file limit", and it exports SRT, VTT and TXT. You leave with a file rather than a rendered video, so a watermark does not come into it, and the page does not mention one. It lists "Hindi and 120+ other languages". For captions uploaded to YouTube as a separate track, this is one of the two cleanest free routes. The HappyScribe comparison has more.
Maestra
Maestra's Hindi subtitles page (17 October 2026) says "Anyone can generate subtitles for free, no credit card or account required". Read on and the same page calls it a "1-minute trial" and a "1-minute preview", with "Sign up to export in your selected format". So the no-account part is for a one-minute look, and the TXT, SRT or VTT export needs an account. It claims more than 125 languages. Watermark is not mentioned.
TurboScribe
TurboScribe (17 October 2026) gives free users 3 transcripts a day of up to 30 minutes each, which is the largest free allowance on this list by a wide margin. It exports SRT, VTT, TXT, DOCX and PDF. It makes subtitle files, not a captioned video, so a watermark simply does not apply. If you want a long SRT for free and will add it to the video yourself, start here. See TurboScribe vs CapsAI.
Captions app
The Captions app pricing page (17 October 2026) describes a free tier with captions in 100+ languages and one caption template, with no AI credits included. It does not state whether free exports carry a watermark, so budget a test export before you rely on it. We looked at the free tier in more depth in is Captions AI free, and the Captions app comparison covers the rest.
CapsAI
CapsAI gives new accounts 3 free minutes to start. Those minutes are for testing accuracy on your own clip, especially Hinglish speech written in Roman script, which only Kapwing on this list also names as a target. It accepts MP4 or MOV up to 10 minutes and exports a burned-in MP4, at 1080p on Starter and up to 4K on Creator and Pro. It does not export SRT.
Watermark-free export comes with every paid pack, and the packs are one-time rather than monthly: ₹49 for 20 minutes, ₹99 for 60 minutes, ₹299 for 180 minutes. CapsAI is not the best free pick for a clean export of an English or Hindi video, or for a free subtitle file. It is the pick when Hinglish captions and a burned-in MP4 are the job. The auto subtitle generator and free subtitle generator pages explain how the minutes work.
The catch with every free plan
Side by side, each vendor gives away one thing and holds back another:
- Minutes. Media.io gives 5, HappyScribe and Kapwing 10, Maestra and Zeemo a single minute per clip. Only Adobe Express and TurboScribe set no monthly or daily minute total, and both cap each file instead.
- Video length. Zeemo stops at 1 minute, Kapwing exports 4, Adobe Express 5, Media.io 10.
- Resolution. Zeemo, Media.io and Kapwing export free at 720p. A vertical Reel shot at 1080p loses sharpness in the text as well as the picture.
- The watermark itself. Kapwing says yes. Media.io's pricing page says yes. Zeemo and Adobe Express say no. VEED, HappyScribe, Maestra and the Captions app do not say on the pages we checked.
- The subtitle file. Kapwing and VEED keep SRT for paid plans. Maestra asks for an account. Adobe Express and CapsAI do not offer one at all.
- Storage. Zeemo deletes free projects after 3 days.
None of this is hidden, but it is spread across pricing pages, help articles and language landing pages, and the landing pages lead with "free" and leave the limit for the pricing page.
What to check before you rely on a free export
Run one real clip through any tool before you build a workflow around its free plan. Five checks take two minutes:
- Export, then watch the file. A watermark can sit in a corner for the whole video or appear only in the last seconds. Scrub to the end.
- Check the resolution of the downloaded file, not the preview. A 720p export of a 1080p source is the most common silent downgrade.
- Confirm the length cap applies to the export, not the upload. Kapwing accepts 10 minutes and exports 4.
- Try the SRT button. On several tools it is visible to free users and opens a payment prompt when clicked.
- Note the storage window. If a tool deletes projects after a few days, download everything the same day.
If a tool fails any of these, the fix is usually a paid pack or plan, and the question becomes which price you will pay rather than which free tier to trust.
Which free option fits which job
- English or Hindi video under 5 minutes, clean export, no monthly limit: Adobe Express. Nothing else on this list matches that combination for free.
- A one-minute clip, clean export, delivered today: Zeemo, as long as you download within 3 days and 720p is fine.
- A free SRT file for YouTube or a video editor: TurboScribe for long files, HappyScribe for the first 10 minutes with no file-size limit.
- A Tamil or Telugu video with a subtitle file: HappyScribe or Maestra, since Adobe Express does not list those languages and VEED keeps SRT behind a paid plan. Our Indian language subtitle support comparison goes language by language.
- Hinglish captions in Roman script, burned into a Reel: test with CapsAI's 3 free minutes on your own clip, then pick a pack. Kapwing also lists Hinglish, with a watermark and a 4-minute export on its free plan.
- A free editor for everything else: Kapwing or VEED, accepting the watermark on Kapwing and the unstated limits on VEED until you test.
For a rendered video, "free" and "no watermark" come together in exactly two places on this list, Adobe Express and Zeemo, plus the subtitle-file tools where a watermark never applied. Every other free plan is a trial by another name, and the right one depends on whether you need minutes, resolution, a file or a language the big tools do not list.
