How to Improve Hindi Audio Transcription Accuracy

No AI model can recover words buried under background noise or clipping. Before worrying about transcription settings, check whether your source audio is clean. A lapel mic in a quiet room produces dramatically better Hindi transcripts than a phone recording in a cafe.

If you are recording interviews, place the mic closer to the speaker rather than between two people. Hindi consonant clusters like क्ष and ज्ञ require clear audio to distinguish from simpler sounds. When recording remotely, ask guests to use headphones - this eliminates echo that confuses speech boundaries.

Most Hindi speakers in urban India naturally insert English words mid-sentence. A sentence like "मैंने meeting में presentation दी" contains three scripts' worth of expectations. If your transcription mode is set to pure Hindi, the English words may appear as garbled Devanagari.

Choose Hinglish mode when more than 20% of spoken content is English. Choose Hindi mode when the content is formal - news broadcasts, lectures, or scripted narration. The wrong mode choice is the single most common reason for poor transcript quality.

Unlike English misspellings which often produce nonsense, Hindi matra errors produce valid but different words. The AI might output मिटिंग instead of मीटिंग, or कमर instead of कमरा. Both are real words - spell-check will not flag them.

Review the transcript while listening to the audio at 0.75x speed. Flag any word where the matra pattern looks different from what you hear. Pay special attention to long vowels (ई, ऊ, ओ) which AI frequently shortens to their short equivalents.

AI transcription struggles with Indian proper nouns that are uncommon in training data. Names like Hrithik get mangled, company names like Zerodha appear as ज़ीरोधा or ज़ीरोडा inconsistently, and place names from smaller cities vary across the transcript.

Before starting a project, list the key names, brands, and places that will appear. After transcription, search for phonetic variants of each. This targeted review takes 5 minutes and catches the errors that matter most to your audience.

First pass: read without audio, marking anything that looks odd. Second pass: listen at reduced speed and correct the marked sections. Third pass: search for your proper-noun list and fix inconsistencies. This three-pass approach takes roughly 3x the audio duration for a polished result.

For informal content like vlogs, one pass is often sufficient. For published interviews or corporate records, all three passes are worth the time.
