Turn Long Videos Into Captioned Shorts

A one-hour podcast, webinar or lecture usually holds several short videos that nobody has time to find by scrubbing. Smart-Clips reads the whole recording, suggests the segments that stand on their own, and hands each one to the caption editor so it leaves as a captioned MP4.

What the captions look like

What you get

  • One upload instead of one upload per clip
  • Clip suggestions come from the transcript, so they start and end on a spoken thought
  • Captions in the spoken language of the recording, including Hinglish and nine Indian languages
  • Minutes are counted on the length of the recording, not the number of clips
  • The same caption styles and editor as the rest of CapsAI, so a series looks consistent

Where it helps

  • Podcast episodes cut into guest quotes and single answers
  • Webinars and course recordings turned into one-tip clips
  • Long YouTube uploads repurposed as Shorts that point back to the full video
  • Interview footage where the best answer is buried at minute forty

How it works

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Upload the full recording

Open Smart-Clips and upload the long MP4 or MOV, up to 120 minutes per upload. Pick the spoken language from the 11 options before you start; captions for every clip will use it.

  2. Step 2

    Let the AI suggest clips

CapsAI scans the transcript and footage for moments that work on their own: strong openings, topic changes and short, complete answers.

  3. Step 3

    Keep the clips worth posting

Not every suggestion deserves a post. Keep the ones with a clear first line and drop anything that needs the rest of the episode to make sense.

  4. Step 4

    Caption each clip

Each clip gets captions in the spoken language you chose. Fix names, numbers and the opening line, then pick a caption style for the series.

  5. Step 5

    Export captioned MP4s

Every clip exports as an MP4 with the captions burned in, ready for Reels, Shorts or LinkedIn.

Questions

How long can the recording be?

Smart-Clips accepts one MP4 or MOV of up to 120 minutes per upload. That is a separate limit from the 10-minute cap on an ordinary caption upload, because each suggested clip is captioned on its own after it is cut.

How does the AI decide which parts become clips?

It works from the transcript and the footage, looking for segments that open with a hook, cover one idea and end cleanly. You review the suggestions and keep the ones you want; nothing is posted automatically.

Do the clips come out captioned?

Yes. Each clip goes through the same caption workflow as a normal upload: the speech is transcribed in the language you picked, you correct the words, choose a style and export. Translation into another language is not available.

How long should a short clip be?

Short enough to hold one idea. If a suggestion runs long, trim it to the single answer or tip that made it worth clipping, and make sure the first line makes sense without the rest of the episode.

What format do the finished clips export in?

The export is an MP4 with the captions burned in. Separate SRT or VTT files are not available from the editor yet; the standalone converters under /tools work on subtitle files you already have.

How are minutes charged for a long recording?

Smart-Clips minutes are counted against the length of the recording you upload, not the number of clips it suggests. Your available minutes are shown in your account, and extra minutes come in one-time packs rather than a subscription.

Why each clip needs its own captions

A caption that worked in the full episode does not always work in a thirty-second clip. The clip starts mid-conversation, so the first line has to carry the context on its own, and a name introduced earlier may need to appear again. Captioning each clip separately, rather than slicing a captioned master, lets you fix exactly that.

Before you upload

Export the recording with clean audio and note the spoken language. If guests switch between Hindi and English, pick Hinglish so the captions do not force one language onto the other. One upload can be up to 120 minutes long; a long recording takes longer to process than a short one, so start the upload before you sit down to review.

Smart-Clips and the clips cutter

Both pages lead to the same Smart-Clips workflow: upload a long recording, review the suggested clips, caption them and export. Use whichever describes your job; the clips cutter page covers the editing side in more detail.
