Tamil Caption and Subtitle Generator

Tamil words run long and Tamil captions run wide: a sentence that fits one line in English often needs two in Tamil script. CapsAI captions Tamil speech in Tamil script, then gives you an editor to shorten lines, confirm names and sort out the English words that Tamil speakers drop into conversation.

How it works

How it works

  1. Step 1

Upload an MP4 or MOV with Tamil speech

Trim first; the captions are timed to the file you upload.

  2. Step 2

Select Tamil as the spoken language

There is no separate Tanglish option. For Tamil mixed with English, Tamil is the right selection, and the English words are the first thing to check afterwards.

  3. Step 3

Shorten lines before you style them

Tamil script is wider than Latin at the same size. Aim for one or two short lines per caption and break only between words, never inside a compound.

  4. Step 4

    Confirm names and loanwords

Place names, people's names and English product terms are the usual corrections. Change a spelling once and keep it consistent through the video.

  5. Step 5

    Preview the font, then export

Pick a style, confirm that vowel signs and pulli render cleanly, position the captions and export the MP4 with them burned in.

Questions

My video is Tanglish. Should I pick Tamil or something else?

Pick Tamil. Hinglish is the only mixed option and it is built for Hindi-English speech; there is no Tanglish setting. With Tamil selected, English words in the speech may appear in Tamil letters or need a correction, so review them in the editor before you export.

Can I download the Tamil captions as SRT or VTT?

The export is an MP4 with the captions burned in. Separate SRT or VTT files are not available from the editor yet; the standalone converters under /tools work on subtitle files you already have.

Why do my Tamil captions wrap onto three lines?

Tamil words are long and the script is wide, so a caption that would fit one English line often needs two in Tamil. Split the caption into two shorter ones in the editor, or reduce the font size a little. Never break inside a word.

Which fonts show Tamil correctly?

Only fonts that include Tamil glyphs. Many display fonts designed for English have none, and the result is boxes or a fallback font. Test a line in the Tamil subtitle font preview, then pick a style whose font covers the script.

Does CapsAI translate an English video into Tamil?

No. Captions come out in the spoken language. An English video gets English captions and a Tamil video gets Tamil captions.

How much does Tamil captioning cost?

Your first 3 minutes are free. After that you buy one-time minute packs; there is no subscription. Free exports may carry a watermark, and watermark-free export is a paid benefit.

Written Tamil and spoken Tamil are not the same

Tamil has a formal written register and a spoken one, and captions on a vlog usually follow speech: இருக்கு rather than இருக்கிறது, போனோட rather than போனின். A news explainer or a lesson may want the written forms. Decide which register suits the channel and apply it consistently; the editor lets you change wording without changing timing.

Keeping lines short in a wide script

Tamil letters carry vowel signs on both sides of the consonant (கொ wraps around க), so lines need more horizontal room than English at the same font size. Two short captions in sequence read better than one long caption that wraps. On a vertical Reel, three lines of Tamil can cover a face, so shorten before you reposition.

Numbers and currency in Tamil captions

Tamil speakers often say numbers in English (fifty thousand) and amounts in lakhs. Captions can show digits (₹50,000) for quick scanning on a phone, or ஐம்பதாயிரம் if the channel keeps everything in Tamil script. Either is fine; mixing both inside one video is not.
