CapsAI

Video caption generator

A Captions App You Never Install

You do not need a captions app. CapsAI puts captions on a video from a browser tab, so the same page works in Safari on an iPhone, Chrome on an Android phone, and Chrome, Edge or Safari on a PC or Mac, with nothing from the App Store or Google Play. Sign in with Google or an email code, upload one MP4 or MOV of up to 10 minutes, and the speech is turned into timed captions you can correct word by word, style and burn into a single MP4 that downloads like any other file. A new account starts with 3 free minutes, and minutes after that are bought once in packs from $4 (₹49 in India, €4 in the euro area), with no subscription to cancel. Two things to know before you start: captions come out in the language spoken (English and 10 Indian languages, no translation), and the download is a captioned MP4 rather than an SRT file.

What the captions look like

What you get

  • No install, no updates and no app-store account, so it also works on a locked-down work laptop
  • One account across iPhone, Android, PC and Mac: upload on the phone, correct on the computer
  • Captions are editable to the word and the second, not a take-it-or-leave-it auto track
  • 37 caption styles including karaoke and word-by-word looks, 8 free and the rest in any paid pack
  • Minutes bought once, from $4 (₹49 in India, €4 in the euro area), with watermark-free export on every paid pack

Where it helps

  • Instagram Reels and TikToks filmed on a phone and posted the same day
  • Students and teachers adding captions on a school or university computer that blocks installs
  • Marketing teams who want one shared sign-in instead of a per-seat phone app
  • Anyone whose phone storage is already full and who will not delete photos for another editor

How it works

How it works

  1. Step 1

Open CapsAI in the browser on the device you have

iPhone: Safari. Android: Chrome. PC or Mac: Chrome, Edge or Safari. Sign in with Google or ask for a one-time email code. Nothing is downloaded or installed at this point or later.

  2. Step 2

Upload one video of up to 10 minutes

Tap Upload and pick the clip from Photos or the gallery, or drag the file onto the page on a computer. MP4 or MOV, 500 MB on a free account, 10 GB with a pack. There is no link import, so save a video to the device first.

  3. Step 3

Confirm English, or pick the language spoken

This page preselects English. If the video is in Hindi, Hinglish, Tamil or another of the 11 supported languages, change it here; captions are written in that language and are not translated.

  4. Step 4

Read the draft and fix anything wrong

The draft opens in an editor. Tap a caption to retype a name or a product, and type a new start or end time in seconds if a line comes in late. Then choose one of 37 styles, set the size and move the captions up or down the frame.

  5. Step 5

    Export and save the MP4

Export renders the captions into the picture: 1080p on Starter, up to 4K on Creator and Pro. The browser saves the MP4 to its download folder, and you post it from there to Instagram, TikTok, YouTube or LinkedIn.

Questions

Is CapsAI a captions app I download?

No. CapsAI is a website that captions video, not an app, and there is nothing to download from the App Store or Google Play. You open capsai.co in the browser, sign in, upload a video and save the captioned MP4 that comes back. The same login works on an iPhone, an Android phone and a computer.

Is there a free captions app from CapsAI, or a free plan?

There is no app, but the start is free: a new account gets 3 minutes of captioning to run on your own footage, with the editor and the 8 free styles included. After that, minutes are bought once in packs: Starter 20 minutes $4, Creator 60 minutes $9, Pro 180 minutes $19 (₹49, ₹99 and ₹299 in India; €4, €9 and €19 in the euro area). Nothing renews.

Does it work on an iPhone without installing anything?

Yes. Open the page in Safari, tap Upload and choose the video from Photos. iPhones set to High Efficiency record HEVC .MOV files, and those upload as recorded, with no conversion. The finished MP4 lands in the Downloads folder of the Files app, and the Share button sends it to Instagram or TikTok. Our iPhone guide walks through each tap.

And on Android?

Yes. Use Chrome, tap Upload and pick the clip from the gallery. Edit the words with the phone keyboard, choose a style and export; Chrome saves the MP4 to its default download location, which the Files app lists. Some Android phones cannot preview an iPhone HEVC file in the browser, but the upload and the captions still work. The Android guide has the detail.

Can I use it on a PC or Mac, and are big files OK?

Yes. Chrome or Edge on Windows and Safari or Chrome on a Mac all work. Drag the video onto the page; a free account takes files up to 500 MB and a pack raises that to 10 GB, which covers camera 4K for a clip of up to 10 minutes. A keyboard and a large screen make the word-fixing pass the quickest part of the job.

Is CapsAI related to Captions, the company behind the Captions app?

No. CapsAI is not affiliated with Captions, Captions AI, Mirage or NOCAP, Inc. Captions sells a video editor with phone apps and a browser version on a monthly subscription; its pricing page, read 30 October 2026, lists Max at $24.99 a month with 500 credits. CapsAI only does captions, in the browser, paid once by the minute. The comparison page sets the two side by side.

What do I lose by not installing an app?

Three things. You need an internet connection, because the speech recognition and the rendering run on CapsAI's servers. Projects are kept for 1 day on free minutes and 3, 7 or 15 days by pack, so download the export rather than treating the workspace as storage. And the output is one MP4 with the captions burned in: there is no SRT, VTT or TXT download, and no transcript export.

Which languages does it caption, and how good is the English?

Eleven spoken languages: English, Hinglish, Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada and Punjabi, each captioned as spoken with no translation. CapsAI's English has been used most on Indian English; for other accents, run your own clip through the 3 free minutes and read the draft. Every word can be corrected before export, whatever the accent.

Is a browser tool slower than an app on the phone?

Upload time depends on the file and the connection, not on whether an app is involved. The captioning runs on servers, so an older phone is not doing the work, and the only file written to the device is the MP4 you download at the end.

Captions the company, Captune, and the page you are on

Most results for "captions app" are a product called Captions, made by NOCAP, Inc. (which also trades as Mirage), plus the App Store and Google Play listings for it and for Captune, an Android app whose Play listing calls it "an easy-to-use and free captions app" and also notes "Contains ads In-app purchases" (read 30 October 2026). CapsAI is none of these and has no connection to them. We mention them because the word "captions" in the search often means that company rather than the feature.

For a plain comparison: Captions' pricing page, read 30 October 2026, lists Max at $24.99 a month with 500 credits, Frontier tiers from $69.99 a month, and a free version that "includes basic tools like trimming, transitions and some media library assets" with one caption template and no AI credits; the page adds that "Features and prices reflect iOS plans only." CapsAI sells captioning minutes once, from $4 (₹49 in India, €4 in the euro area), and unlocks all 37 styles with any pack. If you want Captions' wider editing, AI actors or translation, our alternative page says so plainly; if you want captions on a finished clip without an install or a monthly bill, stay here.

Browser tool or installed app: the honest trade

An installed app has real advantages: it can work offline, it keeps projects on the device for as long as you like, and it renders the moment you tap export. A browser tool brings the opposite set. It takes no storage beyond the final MP4, there is nothing to update and nothing left behind on a shared computer, it is not limited by app-store region or by which OS your phone runs, and one account follows you from a phone on the train to a laptop at a desk.

CapsAI's side of the trade in plain terms: you need a connection for every step; projects are kept for days (1 on free minutes, 3, 7 or 15 by pack), not forever; each upload is one MP4 or MOV of up to 10 minutes; and the output is a single captioned MP4 only, with no subtitle file and no translation. If any of those is a blocker, the post comparing desktop subtitle software with an online generator lays out the installed options.

iPhone, Android, PC and Mac in a few lines each

iPhone: Safari, choose the clip from Photos, and a High Efficiency HEVC .MOV uploads as recorded. The export arrives in the Downloads folder of the Files app and shares out from there. Android: Chrome, choose the clip from the gallery, edit with the phone keyboard, and the MP4 goes to Chrome's default download location. PC and Mac: drag the file onto the page in Chrome, Edge or Safari; with a pack, files up to 10 GB are accepted, which is where a camera's 4K export belongs rather than on a phone over mobile data.

The two phone guides linked below cover the full sequence on each handset. Whatever the device, the editor is the same: tap or click a caption to retype it, type start and end times in seconds, pick a style, set the position, export.

What the free start covers, and what a pack adds

The 3 free minutes on a new account run through the whole flow: upload, captions, the editor, the 8 free styles (Beast and Poppins Italic among them) and a finished MP4 export at the free tier. Use them on a real clip with your own voice and background noise. Projects on free minutes are kept for 1 day.

A pack adds minutes, the 29 remaining styles (Counter, Neue Black, Pop Out and Tommy among them), watermark-free export, larger files up to 10 GB and longer project retention. Starter is 20 minutes for $4, Creator 60 minutes for $9 with export up to 4K, and Pro 180 minutes for $19 (₹49, ₹99 and ₹299 in India; €4, €9 and €19 in the euro area). Every account, free or paid, can also place AI sound effects on caption words in the editor.
